Fall Savings

Lowering your energy use and your utility bill starts with simple changes in energy efficient behaviors. Your utility partners at NHSaves have put together some quick tips to help you get started.

  • Remember to Turn Off Outdoor Lighting
Save energy and minimize light pollution by turning off outdoor lighting when not in use. Click here to learn more about the harmful effects of light pollution from the International Dark-Sky Association.
  • Utilize Your Shades and Fans
Help keep your home cool by closing blinds or shades during the day to block the sun’s heat and using fans to better distribute cool air throughout your space. Fans cool people not rooms so turn off when you leave the space.
  • Be Smart with Your A/C
If you are in the market for a new air conditioning unit, shop smart and look for the ENERGY STAR® label. ENERGY STAR certified room air conditioners use 10% less energy than conventional models, reducing energy bills and helping our environment. Click here for $20 back when you purchase an ENERGY STAR certified room air conditioner.
  • Opt for No-Bake Recipes
Cooking with a conventional oven can force your A/C unit to work harder as it battles the unwanted heat. Try some new no-bake recipes—like guacamole—or keep to the grill for your tasty meals this summer.
  • Replace Air Filters
Clogged filters can block airflow and reduce your A/C’s ability to absorb heat. By replacing a dirty filter with a clean one, you can lower your unit’s energy usage by up to 15%.
  • Get an Energy-Efficient Dehumidifier
With the humidity of the summer, a dehumidifier is the perfect partner for your A/C. A dehumidifier helps lower energy costs by removing moisture from indoor air before it is cooled, so your A/C doesn’t have to work as hard to cool your home. Click here to save.
